Swimming Lessons
are designed to teach 6 year olds to adults
the skills and knowledge needed to be safe when they are in, on or around the water.
Skills include stroke development, rescue techniques and proper use of safety devices.

Level 1
Skills learned: submerge face, release cramp, supported kicking on back,
supported kicking on front, walk 5 yards in chest deep water, supported front float,
supported back float, blowing bubbles, put on a life jacket and enter shallow water,
learn water safety rules, reaching assist without equipment, enter and exit pool using a ladder,
ramp, or steps, bounce up and down in chest deep water 10 times.
Level 2
Skills learned: hold breath and fully submerge head for 3 seconds, assist nonswimmer to feet,
step from side into chest deep water and recover balance, get out of pool from side, unsupported back float,
rhythmic breathing, unsupported front float, flutter kick on front, flutter kick on back, finning on back,
back crawl arm motion, front crawl, back crawl, turn over front to back, float with life jacket face out of water,
reaching assist from deck, retrieve objects, observe rescue breathing.
Level 3
Skills learned: retrieve objects no support, bob to fully submerged head, bob in chest deep water,
dive from side of pool kneeling position, learn safe diving rules, tread water, jump inot deep end with life jacket,
reverse push off, back glide with push off, reverse dicection while performing crawl stroke, elementary back stroke,
learn how to open airway, help position, huddle position, jump into deep end.
Level 4
Skills learned: deep water bobing, rotary breathing, dive from side of pool, elementary back stroke
10 yards, sculling on back 5 yards in 15 seconds, front crawl 25 yards with rotary breathing, back crawl 25 yards,
breast stroke kick 10 yards, side stroke scissors kick 10 yards, introduction to turning at wall,
tread water 2 minutes, rescue breathing, see CPR demonstration.
